Newrest, leader in inflight catering in south Africa

Newrest has been present in South Africa since 2009, with the acquisition of production sites in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and more recently in Durban.

More than 1,200 employees manufacture and distribute thousands of meals a day for prestigious airlines such as Emirates, Air France, British Airways, KLM and Qatar Airways.

The Group has been chosen by these airlines to provide a quality catering service on board of their flights.

To support the growth of its business in the country, the Group has invested in a complete renovation of its Cape Town production site.

Newrest carried out major works to complete this project.

5 new loading and unloading bays have been created to facilitate trolley handling. Teams now have a well-protected area in which trucks can maneuver in complete safety.

The Group also renovated the entire electrical network following a study of the unit’s energy consumption. LED lights, motion detectors and circuit breakers were installed to reduce electricity consumption. The equipment is accessible to personnel for greater safety.

A new gas has been introduced in the freezers and cooling system to reduce Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Finally, the Group has completely replaced the dishwasher, reducing water and detergent consumption and thus Newrest’s impact on the environment.

Improving working conditions for teams and the sustainability of production units are at the heart of a major renovation and construction program that Newrest has initiated for 2022.
