Newrest Sweden launches a Buddy Program to welcome the new collaborators

We all know it, starting a new job can be both exciting and challenging. To make the transition as smooth and welcoming as possible, Newrest Sweden has introduced a Buddy Program designed to support new employees right from day one.
Implementation of the Buddy Program
Why was the Buddy Program created?
The program was initiated to enhance the onboarding process for new collaborators in the Newrest Arlanda’s unit, in Sweden. Employee onboarding is a crucial stage. It familiarizes them with the group’s structure, culture, vision, mission and values. A well-executed onboarding process helps new hires become integrated, motivated, and productive members of the team.
The purpose of the Buddy Program is to ensure a positive experience for new team members as they settle in by introducing them in a smooth and effective manner.
How does the program work?
Each newcomer is paired with a more experienced member of staff who guides and supports them throughout their first four weeks on the job: a “Buddy”. The Buddy’s role is to provide support, answer questions and offer guidance during the initial period. This helps new collaborators feel confident and connected as they learn the ropes.
For example, a buddy might give the new hire a tour of the workplace, introduce them to their new colleagues, or take them to lunch.
What are the rules?
Newrest Sweden selects buddies carefully and guides them. They need to understand perfectly how the buddy program works, what the purpose of the initiative is, what their new mentorship role will entail, and any ground rules and guidelines.
The Buddy Program should define clearly the buddies’ responsibilities, their schedule, the duration of the program, the frequency of the meeting between the new hire and the buddy. It could also include conversation starters to facilitate communication.
Buddies are particularly important during the first week, and weekly meetings can be conducted during the following month to see how the new collaborators are settling in.
