Minera San Cristobal team

Newrest announces the renewal of its remote site management contract with Minera San Cristobal (MSC), a lead, silver and zinc mine located on the Bolivian Altiplano at an altitude of 4,200 meters. This renewed partnership confirms Newrest’s commitment to delivering services in extreme environments.

A continuous presence serving Minera San Cristobal

Minera San Cristóbal is a subsidiary of San Cristobal Mining Inc., a Canadian mining company. Since 2008, Newrest has been operating in Bolivia, supporting MSC in its operations.

The contract covers a wide range of services: catering, accommodation, facility maintenance, laundry, disinfection, leisure management, and sourcing of local products. These services are provided 24/7 by a team of 277 Newrest employees, including 144 women and 227 individuals from local communities.

Key factors for a successful contract renewal

A long-term collaboration built on mutual trust

The renewed trust between Minera San Cristobal and Newrest is based on close collaboration and effective teamwork, which have enabled successive contract renewals.

This relationship has been strengthened through active listening to client needs and continuous support, particularly during crisis periods. Despite blockades and shortages of food and fuel, Newrest maintained operations and ensured service continuity.

Nutritional and operational adaptation to the mining context

Newrest demonstrates strong adaptability to unforeseen challenges despite site constraints. This is reinforced by continuous optimization of operational processes and resource management.

In the mine’s four restaurants, up to 3,800 meals are served daily. To meet growing nutritional expectations on mining sites, specific menus have been developed for Minera San Cristobal, taking into account altitude effects, guests’ dietary habits, and clients’ nutritional requirements. This initiative is complemented by the “Feel Good” program, locally implemented under the name “Bien-Estar,” which promotes healthy lifestyles among workers.

As part of continuous improvement, several investments are planned, including the renovation of kitchen equipment, as outlined in the new contract.

Integration within the local ecosystem

Newrest actively engages with local communities. This commitment is reflected in local purchasing, educational support for children (including food donations to schools), and training modules.

Between 2024 and 2025, 210 individuals from the communities of San Cristobal, Vila Vila, and Culpina K received training in best production practices, national and international cuisine, and bakery and pastry professions. In parallel, over 120 community employees completed training modules in customer relations, service techniques, and leadership.

Certified commitment to quality, safety, and environment

Since 2011, Newrest Bolivia has been certified ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and 22000, attesting to the reliability of its operations and its commitment to quality, safety, environment, and food safety.

To date, the site has recorded 1,336 days without lost-time incidents (LTI).

The renewal of the contract between Minera San Cristobal and Newrest illustrates the strength of a partnership built on performance, adaptability, and local engagement. Through a comprehensive service offering and active involvement with communities, the group confirms its ability to operate sustainably in complex and demanding environments.
