Newrest has installed innovative sensors in the fridges of three units in Scandinavia. These add-on sensors are directly connected to the compressors and mark a significant advancement in energy optimization technology. By integrating CSR initiatives, Newrest Scandinavia not only optimizes its energy consumption and operational costs, but it also demonstrates its commitment to a sustainable future for Newrest collaborators and our planet.

Innovative sensors able to detect the food’s temperature

Unlike traditional sensors that monitor room temperature, causing compressors to run continuously and even faster when a fridge door is opened, the new Energy Probe sensor takes a different approach.

This cutting-edge technology detects the temperature of the food items inside the fridge. By doing so, it ensures that the cooling and freezing systems adjust their operation based on the actual cooling needs of the food. This means compressors only activate when the food’s temperature reaches a pre-set limit, as per Newrest’s standards.

A significant reduction in energy consumption and carbon footprint

This temperature sensor has many benefits: economical, environmental and operational.

According to Newrest’s service provider, this technology can achieve an impressive energy saving of about 60% compared to previous consumption levels. Given that fridge electricity is one of the largest energy consumers, this innovation will have a substantial impact on the group’s overall energy savings.

Additionally, it reduces operational costs and the carbon footprint of the units.

Enhance maintenance and longevity

This technology also leads to fewer but longer cooling cycles, allowing the system more time to collect moisture between cycles. Consequently, the amount of moisture in the room is reduced, diminishing the risk of ice and condensation build-up. Fewer compressor starts mean increased sustainability of the entire system and a longer lifespan for its components.
