Over the past two years, the team has embraced a circular approach to waste management by transforming organic kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost.

Green Growth: Composting and cultivating at Newrest Cancun

For the past 2 years, Newrest Mexico Cancun has been separating its own organic waste from fruits and vegetables and transforming it into compost thanks to an ecological partner, LU’UM, who comes by every day to collect the bags.

By mutual agreement, Newrest has access to a portion of that compost production, and to close the virtuous circle of this good practice, Newrest Mexico has created its own rooftop garden on the production unit.

A garden that grows community

Newrest Mexico planted various species for consumption in its cafeteria, such as chili peppers, radishes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and also herbs that enhance the flavor of our meals.

Our teams didn’t forget the flowers, which help attract bees for pollination. On July 2nd, Newrest Mexico harvested its first radishes and saw the first flowers bloom.

With the dedication and care of the entire team involved in the project, Newrest hopes to continue reaping the fruits of this garden, which not only helps reduce the group’s environmental footprint but also brings the collaborators together as a team.

Newrest affirms its CSR commitments through a concrete charter for sustainable growth. Reducing waste, responsible purchasing, inclusion, and managerial innovation are just some of the actions embedded in daily operations, going far beyond commercial goals.
