By crossing the wet finish line at the entrance to the Brest Gully, this Friday at 18:03:09, after 8 days 1 hour 3 minutes and 9 seconds of race, Fabrice Amedeo ranked 7th of the Bermuda 1000 Race. A classification the Newrest – Art & Fenêtres skipper grabbed thanks to determination and envy, battling until the last meters with his direct competitor Clément Giraud, after overtaking three opponents in the last hours of sea. Despite technical problems encountered, the loss of a J3 and random breakdowns of the pilot in particular, the sailor has never dropped anything. As the first race of the season, this 2,000-mile loop from Douarnenez via Fastnet and the Azores was also the first big navigation of the year, due to a late launch. This test will have taken the form of a full-scale validation for the entire team, and has been extremely rich in lessons. Fabrice finished with a small list of details to improve and especially the satisfaction of having found beautiful sensations and being really in tune with his foiler. A first hot deal very encouraging for the future.
Fabrice’s first words after his arrival in Brest: “The result of this race is very positive. I striked out a little into the unknown without having trained, without being able to experience the boat because of this late launching. In the end, I had problems, but I grabbed an honorable seventh place and above all I showed that I could go back on the competition and that I could be a threat. Perhaps the most important thing is that I took a lot of fun. On paper, if I would have been announced seventh place before the start, I would have signed right away. This race makes it possible to see that I have taken a step forward, to draw up a list of points for improvement in view of the Vendée Globe and to embark on the Transat Jacques Vabre race at the end of the year. All this is very positive! “.
