A Facility fully dedicated to rail operations

Designed as a true concentration of technology, the Sucy-en-Brie Digital Factory combines full automation, advanced robotics, and intelligent data analytics. This new facility brings to the rail industry the innovations already implemented at Newrest’s Digital Factory in Wissous (Paris-Orly) and represents a major evolution in the Group’s operating model.

Covering 4,500 m², the facility manages the preparation, replenishment, and logistics organization of onboard service trolleys for SNCF Voyageurs’ long-distance trains. Every day, Newrest handles the loading of 500 trains, supported by a smooth and highly automated industrial process.

Automation serving both performance and people

Within the Digital Factory, robotics play a key role by managing:

  • Identification of incomplete drawers,
  • Automated routing to manual or automated replenishment areas,
  • Intelligent storage in departure zones,
  • Load preparation through automated labeling.

This automation enables throughput of up to 500 drawers per hour, ensuring greater accuracy, speed, and traceability.

By taking over the most physically demanding tasks, such as heavy lifting and container handling, robots enable operators to focus on higher value-added activities including supervision, quality control, flow management, and compliance monitoring. This organization improves ergonomics, reduces physical strain, and enhances overall operational efficiency.

Reinventing rail logistics

The Sucy-en-Brie Digital Factory represents a major step forward for onboard catering operations:

  • Increased replenishment reliability
  • Optimized inventory management through data analytics and business intelligence
  • Improved demand forecasting (sporting events, heatwaves, seasonal peaks, etc.)
  • Smoother logistics flows between production sites, logistics centers, and railway stations

Dry goods, beverages, and consumables are prepared in Sucy-en-Brie, while fresh meals are produced at the Le Bourget production unit before being distributed to Paris-Lyon and Paris-Montparnasse stations.

A new milestone in Newrest’s digital transformation

The opening of this Digital Factory is part of Newrest’s broader industrial transformation program launched in 2015.

Following the success of the Digital Factories in Wissous (Paris-Orly, dedicated to Transavia) and Madrid, the Sucy-en-Brie facility further illustrates the intelligent and agile industrial model being deployed internationally by the Group.

Similar solutions are scheduled to be implemented in Atlanta (USA), Iceland for Icelandair, and Copenhagen to support Scandinavian Airlines.

“This rail Digital Factory embodies our ambition: reinventing catering on the move through technology, human expertise, and industrial performance. It marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing our rail partners with a more reliable, faster, and more sustainable service,” said Olivier Sadran, Chairman of the Newrest Group.
