Newrest Chile: Recognition of the increase in female workforce

Antofagasta Minerals has just awarded Newrest Chile a recognition for the increase in the female workforce. Antofagasta Minerals is one of the ten largest copper producers in the world. In Chile, they maintain four mining operations, and Newrest is providing services in three of them: Zaldívar, Antucoya, and Centinela.
Suppliers meeting for a better future: Talent has no gender
On March 27th, the event ” Encuentro proveedores para un futuro mejor: El talento no tiene género” (Suppliers meeting for a better future: talent has no gender) was held at the Sheratton Santiago Hotel in Chile. This event brought together prominent speakers such as Nicolas Grau from the Ministry of Economy, Georgeanne Barceló, Vice President of People and Organization, and Mauricio Ortiz, Vice President of Finance.
During the event, a special recognition was awarded to Newrest for its participation and commitment to the challenge of increasing the female workforce at the sites where they operate. The award was received by Sebastián Rodriguez, Newrest Chile General Director, Oriana Rojas, HR Director, and Verónica Sandoval, Deputy General Manager. Additionally, Newrest invited Irene Parada, a service assistant, as a representative of the female workforce.
Antofagasta Minerals’ goal
Antofagasta Minerals has set an ambitious goal of achieving 25% female workforce recruitment, following the example of AMSA. This goal reflects the company’s commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusion in the mining industry.
Words from the Director of Newrest Chile on the female workforce
Sebastián Rodriguez, General Director of Newrest Chile, stated: “We have always liked new challenges, so when AMSA called us around 2021 to accompany them in the task of promoting the participation of women in mining, we took the mission very seriously. And today, we are going one step further. We are currently developing programs so that these women not only work on the site but can also take on leadership roles and unleash their full potential.”
