It’s all about measurement. On a last generation IMOCA, as is Newrest – Art & Fenêtres, the colossal forces applying on the different parts of an 8-ton foiler that “flies” at the limit between air and water – the rigging, sails, appendages and the structure of the boat – are all parameters to discover, quantify or refine to better adapt the strength and grammage necessary and sufficient to meet the demands.

It is to answer these questions, which are of the utmost importance, that Fabrice Amedeo and his team decided to set up a partnership with a world specialist: Trescal. If today the results of this collaboration have made it possible, thanks to the use of a tensiometer, to correct a slight imbalance between the port and starboard stays, the collaboration should not stop there. “Our wish would be, ultimately, to instrument the J2 strut and outrigger pullers to have information of tension in the rig in real time” says the skipper, who also relies on his partner to validate the calibration of all instruments on board, from the anemometer to temperature sensors, both external and immersed.

At the same time, the training program is going on for Fabrice, who is going out with a talented teacher, “The” teacher: Michel Desjoyeaux. The double winner of the Vendée Globe participates in the handling of the boat and brings all its expertise in areas as varied as adjustments and ergonomics. A coaching that advances the discovery and practice by leaps and bounds. After the medium and light weather at the beginning of the week, the breeze is on the agenda for this Wednesday. Ideal conditions for some speed tests with Arnaud Boissière also out with his Mie Câline – Artipôle foiler.
