Fabrice Amedeo and Giancarlo Pedote as a duo for the 2017 Transat Jacques Vabre

Europe

For several weeks, Fabrice Amedeo has taken over the sea and training in La Trinité-sur-Mer. A return to the sea that he particularly likes especially as in addition to the hard core of his team, he has benefited for some time from the reinforcement of the navigator Giancarlo Pedote. Competitors in recent years in Class 40, the two men have always enjoyed mutual respect for each other. A relationship which, although not narrow, has favored their rapprochement in the perspective of the 2017 Transat Jacques Vabre. It must be said that these two have provide each other: an experience in Imoca around the world for the one and a solid luggage to sail for the other. A happy mix that the skipper of Newrest – Brioche Pasquier sums up: “I am very happy to set off on this new adventure with Giancarlo. We raced against each other for several years in Class 40 and especially on the last Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe. Giancarlo is a very good sailor and he should bring me his know-how in the right adjustment of the sails. For my part, I will bring him my experience in Imoca as it is a boat that he discovers. Our first sailings are very promising and our agreement very good. Having an Italian co-skipper is also a way for me to open my project to an international dimension: Italy is a strategic market for many of my partners. Finally, it is a nod to my distant Italian roots, Italy is a country that I like very much”.

Enthusiasm and association of skills!

On Giancarlo Pedote’s side, enthusiasm is shared and the Italian navigator who aims to participate in the Vendée Globe in 2020, is delighted with a first experience in Imoca: “I have good sensations regarding Fabrice, with whom I already made the first sailings in La Trinité-sur-Mer”, tells the one who won the last Transat Jacques Vabre in Multi50, before adding: “Fabrice’s experience in the world of sailing is really special and very interesting: he managed to make his two passions cohabit, sailing and writing. He is a professional who manages well his sports project and his career as a journalist. Fabrice christened his oceanic challenge “Reporters du Large”, a name that emphasizes that offshore racing is a high-level sport but is also an adventure, a journey endowed with an editorial dimension that makes the public dream”. Note that Giancarlo Pedote does not arrive alone on board. Prysmian, a global leader in the cable and power industry for telecommunications and partner of the sailor for ten years, will accompany the duo between Le Havre and Salvador de Bahia.

It all began in 1936 in a small town in the Maine et Loire where Gabriel Pasquier’s family bakery made his regional reputation with the brioche.
