Supporting local populations and dialogue with communities are an integral part of the Newrest Group’s operations worldwide.
Several actions have been implemented to support the social and economic development of local populations in various countries, thus ensuring their long-term benefit.
In Gabon, teams has strengthened their exchanges with local communities near their client ASSALA’s Rabi and Gamba projects:
– The team organize regular meetings at which they discuss developments in agricultural and fisheries production, as well as support measures to structure the cooperatives.
– Exchanges and training on food safety are organized for local fishermen.
– Financial support has been set up for chicken breeders.
– Cell phones have been distributed to village chiefs to facilitate exchanges and monitoring of activities.
– The group has begun training and has hired 12 people from Rabi and 39 from Gamba.
– Local products were purchased from the communities of Rabi and Gamba, to support the local economy and thus reduce the carbon footprint. In 2023, Newrest purchased nearly 67 tonnes of fresh fruit, vegetables, and fish.
Supporting, accompanying and being close to local populations is the definition of local content for NEWREST GABON.
Concrete actions already implemented around the world
– Promoting the “European Chicken Commitment” among European suppliers.
– The exclusive use of egg products from free-range hens.
– Favoring national and local sourcing.
– Favoring seasonal products when preparing menus, as well as raising customer awareness.
– Ban endangered fish species from supply catalogs and menus.
– Raising awareness of sustainable fishing methods among fishermen.
– Implement local production activities in all sectors where the Group is present (at least 1 project per country by 2030).
These are real environmental and societal challenges, for consumers, suppliers and the planet.
