October 2024: the rail teams fervently supported the Pink October campaign
We have chosen to become a fundraiser for the Ruban Rose association because we believe it’s essential to support research and raise awareness among our teams of the battle against breast cancer. This cancer not only affects the patient but also disrupts the lives of everyone around them.
It was with such enthusiasm that the team on trains, on units and in offices wore the pink ribbon throughout the month of October.
€10,000 raised for the Ruban Rose association
Thanks to the efforts of the team on board the TGV InOui and Intercités trains, thousands of slices of pink raspberry marble cake were sold, raising €1 per sale! This money helps to fund research, as well as technical and medical advances.
At the same time, awareness-raising campaigns were conducted throughout the company throughout the month.
Focus on Ruban Rose Association
The association was founded in 1994 by Estée Lauder Compagnies France and Marie Claire magazine, with the launch of a month-long breast cancer awareness campaign called “Le Cancer du Sein, Parlons-en!”
The Ruban rose association has 2 main missions:
- To support research through the annual Pink Ribbon Awards
- Inform and raise awareness about breast cancer
A cancer that affects many women
With around 61,214 new cases in 2023 and more than 900,000 people affected in France, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting one in eight women. Nearly 80% of breast cancers develop after the age of 50, which is why it is recommended that women between the ages of 50 and 74 undergo a breast screening program.
A cancer that also affects men
Male breast cancer is rare. It accounts for 1% of all breast cancers, or around 600 cases a year. So, it’s important for men to be aware that this cancer can affect them, and not to ignore the symptoms.
Did you know? From the age of 25, it is recommended to have a clinical breast examination (observation and palpation) by a health professional every year.
