A new Digital Factory in Madrid
Europe
Madrid and Newrest share a long history. The first unit was built 30 years ago, in 1994, and much has changed since then. The main activity in Madrid is airline catering, with a well-balanced portfolio of long-haul, regional, VIP, and charter flight operations.
Newrest looks to the future of onboard catering
Since 2015, Newrest has embarked on the digitalization of its activities by integrating robotic automation into its production units.
In March 2023, the first Digital Factory was inaugurated at the Paris-Orly (Wissous) site, dedicated to Transavia, a Newrest client. This production site features cutting-edge technologies :
- The Tray Set Up (TSU) lines are robotized, equipped with 3D cameras, and directly connected to the enhanced Winrest software.
- Robots receive Manufacturing Orders (OF) and produce trays entirely automatically. The same applies to the preparation of onboard snack sales trolleys.
Fully automated and robotic, this Digital Factory ensures reliable and secure production throughout the value chain. Although the jobs are evolving, the employees remain the same. Newrest trains them to improve their skills and manage new tasks.
A second Digital Factory in Madrid
The Madrid site continues to evolve to meet the new needs of customers and guests. Newrest has just completed the construction of a new unit with an area of 14,000 m² (the largest Digital Factory Newrest has ever built), and like the Wissous unit, it incorporates advanced technologies.
The Madrid unit is equipped to serve not one, but several airlines simultaneously. This allows Newrest to gain flexibility and adapt its operations based on destination, flight type and passenger specifics. The group can thus guarantee a tailored and optimized experience for each client.
Digital Factories directly connect customer data to Newrest’s production facilities, improving decision-making and reducing production costs.
Newrest never stops innovating and is always looking further into the future by investing in technologies. A new Digital Factory will soon be established in Sucy-en-Brie where Newrest plans to revolutionize railway catering.
